Tiny Baby - 7 months 3 weeks

hello friends and family,

Oden is now a vicious crawling machine who cannot be stopped. Strategically placed caches of puffed cereal snacks are our only defense... his range grows daily and the cats have sought sanctuary outdoors... they are safe, for now, until the day Oden discovers the kitty door... mwhahaha!

Oden had his first encounter with a playground swing on Sunday and he LOVED it! so, i am posting a photo from the event as well... in reviewing this video i realize i am doing a lot of talking and Oden doesn't get a lot of screen time and i ramble on a bit but if i reshoot it may never get posted. So, enjoy!

Tiny Baby's First Haircut

Oden got his first haircut this week, unbeknownst to me... I was not pleased at first, but its grown on me a bit... although, I don't think Dad will be wielding the scissors/razor next time around! I don't think I mentioned how old Oden is in the video, but he is 5 months, one week old and bursting with personality! Here are a couple photos and a video of the little punk:)

Tiny Baby - Week 18

hello friends and family!

i should really be in bed but i wanted to get this video up and post a photo of Oden eating his first meal with a spoon. he was really into the spoon and cereal portions of the ordeal, but didn't quite grasp the swallowing part... then he cried into the evening and we decided we would try again in a month or so... we just are really tired of liquid pooh blowouts and were hoping the solids would help coagulate things a bit, and ideally, he would gain a little weight, but it looks like we'll keep the liquids flowing for awhile longer...

Tiny Baby - Week 11

Hello Friends and Family!

Here is the 11 week update featuring a cameo by Mitch! I can't believe our little man is already 11 weeks, but at the same time only 11 weeks old... He is sleeping from about 8 to 5 or 6 then from 5 or 6 to 8 or 9, so I think we are doing pretty good all in all... Also, I mention in the video that he seems a lot bigger to me, so I ended up measuring him, and he has grown 2 inches in 3 weeks... outstanding! Enjoy!

The Teddy Project

Hello Friends and Family,

When Oden was born we chose to donate his umbilical cord blood for research and medical use. We were also asked to take part in the Teddy study on type 1 (childhood) diabetes which would screen his blood for the higher risk genes for type 1 diabetes. We agreed for both the sake of science and because we have a family history of type 1 diabetes. Happily, we received news that Oden does not carry the high risk genes and while it is not a promise that he will never develop type 1 diabetes he is at the same risk as the 'average child, which is 1 in 300'. Yay! We don't have any photos of Oden with a teddy bear, so here is a picture of Oden with his rhino, taken at 2.5 weeks:

Tiny Baby - 8 week stats

Hello friends and family,

Ok, things are settling down around here and I have a moment to update you all on Oden's progress. At his 8 week appt. his stats were:

Height: 1'-10.84" (53%)

Weight: 11lb 8.8oz. (52%)

Head Circumference: 14.96" (14%)

His head is kind of lopsided from wanting to look right so much, but the doctor said it will round back out when he starts sitting up more. They also they took his rectal temperature, which was a first for him and he made grunting noises like he was trying to poop, it was funny and sad all at once. Also, he kept up his tradition of tinkling all over the scale.

Oden received his first round of vaccinations at this visit as well and it broke our little hearts to hear him scream at the pain of the injections :( He took it all in stride though, and didn't seem to have any reactions to the shots aside from a mild temperature and crankiness. His next appointment will be at 16 weeks, so in May sometime.

Oden's 2 Week Update

hello friends and family,

well blogger is still having issues with the videos, which is frustrating, but i figured i could throw some photos up here and give you a little update on oden's stats. he had his 2 week checkup on tuesday and he gained a pound since his birth, which is great because he was on the light side and it means he is getting plenty to eat! he is sleeping well, giving us 3 to 4 hour chunks of sleep in the evenings, which is a blessing because neither mitch or i are all that pleasant when sleep-deprived and is alert for a couple hours at a time during the days. so, all in all everything is going great! i really hope the videos get working again because it is so much faster and easier for me to update you all that way, and you get to see the little man in action! anyway, here are his stats, percentile wise for those who have an interest in such things:

Wt: 7lb 11.4oz (23%)

Ht: 1'8.5" (46%) (i don't think they stretched him out all the way though, he was being a bit fussy, then peed on me)

Head Circumference: 14.02" (22%)

its almost feeding time so i have to run, but i hope everyone is doing well, and thank you all so much for all of the well wishes! enjoy the photos!

He's here at last! Our tiny baby Oden Joseph Williams arrived at 5:51pm Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 weighing 6lbs 11oz and measuring 20.03 inches in length. He is sooooo adorable and we love him to bits! Here is a first glimpse!
